Family of 6 killed in Hudson River helicopter crash were in NYC to celebrate child’s birthday

A family of six that died in a helicopter crash on Thursday had come from Spain to celebrate one of the children’s birthday on April 11, before their helicopter split into pieces over the Hudson River.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop revealed in a press conference that the victims include Agustín Escobar, 49, his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, and their three children.

Escobar and Montal worked at Siemens Mobility and the former was visiting Pittsburgh on a business trip before the tragic accident. The family was about to be joined by their extended family for the birthday celebrations.

Fulop mentioned that the investigators are considering, “three working theories, there was the birds’ discussion, there was drone discussion, and mechanical failure discussion,” as the cause of the crash.
